-
Add the butter and all-purpose flour mix to a small pot on the stove top at low to medium heat.
-
Whisk the butter and flour together until the mixture slowly begins to bubble. Once bubbling, continue to whisk for an additional 60 seconds.
-
Slowly add the milk into the pot and increase temperature to a medium heat. Allow the mixture to come to a simmer, all while continuously whisking.
-
Mixture will begin to thicken. Once it’s thick enough to coat a spoon, turn off the heat but leave the pot on the burner.
-
Add in the shredded cheddar, one handful at a time, melting and blending in-between handfuls. If needed, turn the heat to low to help the cheese melt. Do not over heat.
-
Once all the cheese is melted and the mixture is well blended, stir in the salt and chili powder.
-
If the sauce becomes too thick, simply whisk in an additional splash of milk.
- Pour into a serving dish and garnish with the crumbled bacon.
- Enjoy with pretzels or crackers!
